Wichita, KS – Bitter cold and light snow are set to impact central Kansas Thursday, with freezing wind chills dipping below zero in the morning. Travelers and residents are urged to prepare for slick roads, especially on I-35, as snow flurries develop by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values Thursday morning could reach as low as -5°F to -15°F in some areas. Snow chances increase to 20-60% by the afternoon, particularly in southern Kansas, with high temperatures hovering between 30°F and 39°F. Winds from the northwest at 6-10 mph could create patchy blowing snow, reducing visibility for drivers.

By Thursday night, temperatures are expected to plummet further, with lows ranging from 16°F to 25°F and wind gusts reaching 20 mph. A 30% chance of additional snow remains overnight. The hazardous weather outlook extends into Friday morning, with residents advised to monitor weather updates and take precautions for frostbite risk during prolonged exposure outdoors.

The weather improves slightly by Friday with highs in the low 30s and mostly sunny skies. The weekend brings gradual warming, with highs climbing to the mid-30s Saturday and Sunday, providing some relief from the arctic blast.

Residents should stock up on essentials, check road conditions before traveling, and dress in layers to stay warm. Stay tuned to local forecasts for updates as conditions develop.
