Wichita, Kansas – Heavy rain and strong thunderstorms could drench Wichita early Thursday, with downpours and patchy fog expected to complicate morning travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a line of storms will develop overnight, with showers likely beginning around 3 a.m. and continuing through 9 a.m. Thursday. Rainfall could be locally heavy, with a 90% chance of precipitation and isolated thunderstorms possibly producing hazardous conditions across Sedgwick County.

Tonight’s temperatures will dip to around 55°F before rebounding to a high near 70°F on Thursday. Winds will shift northeast at 7 to 9 mph as storms pass. Patchy fog may reduce visibility before 9 a.m., especially near highways like I-135 and U.S. Route 400.

Residents should avoid flooded roadways and use caution during early commutes. Charge devices and secure outdoor items ahead of possible gusty winds or lightning.

Conditions are expected to clear by Thursday afternoon, with mostly sunny skies and milder weather returning Friday. However, a slight chance of storms may return by Saturday.

Further advisories may be issued if rainfall intensifies or flooding occurs overnight.
