Wichita, Kansas — Dry and tranquil weather will close out New Year’s Eve tonight and continue into New Year’s Day, providing favorable conditions for travel and outdoor plans across central and south-central Kansas.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, dry conditions will persist through the upcoming weekend, with above-average temperatures for late December and early January. High temperatures Wednesday are expected to reach 55–60 degrees, with overnight lows between 25 and 30 degrees as 2025 comes to an end.
Roadways across the region, including I-35, I-135, US-54, US-400, and US-81, are expected to remain dry and clear through the night, with no rain, snow, fog, or ice anticipated. Light winds will limit additional travel concerns.
On New Year’s Day (Thursday), temperatures will be slightly cooler but still mild, with highs ranging from 43 to 50 degrees and lows from 28 to 37 degrees. Dry weather continues Friday through Sunday, with highs generally in the upper 40s to low 60s.
No weather advisories or warnings are in effect for the region. The National Weather Service notes that the extended stretch of quiet weather should support safe holiday travel and outdoor activities, though residents are encouraged to remain aware of overnight temperature drops that could bring patchy frost in rural areas.
Drivers heading out for New Year’s Eve celebrations should still use standard caution during late-night travel but can expect minimal weather-related disruptions as 2026 begins.
