Wichita, Kansas – Hot, dry days will dominate Kansas through midweek, but residents should prepare for a wetter pattern beginning early Thursday as scattered thunderstorms develop across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, high temperatures will hover between 86°F and 92°F on Tuesday and Wednesday, with clear skies and minimal wind. However, by early Thursday morning, spotty showers and isolated thunderstorms may begin to affect southeastern counties, including Cowley, Montgomery, and Labette.

The greatest chance for off-and-on storms will stretch from Thursday through Saturday, especially across southeast Kansas. Afternoon highs during this period will remain in the mid-80s, but increased humidity and cloud cover may contribute to localized flooding or brief power outages during strong cells. Friday could bring stronger storms depending on daytime heating and atmospheric instability.

Drivers should remain alert for slick roads, especially during morning commutes. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates. This pattern marks the first significant round of June storms following a prolonged dry spell.

Storm chances continue into the weekend, with more updates likely if conditions change.
