Wichita, Kansas – Highs near 90°F and rising humidity could give way to scattered thunderstorms across Kansas by late Thursday, with a stronger chance of storms expected Friday, potentially affecting outdoor plans and evening travel in the Wichita area.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, dry and slightly cooler-than-average conditions will persist through Wednesday, with daytime highs between 85°F and 92°F. A weak front combined with increasing moisture could trigger isolated thunderstorms late Thursday, especially in central and southern Kansas. By Friday, the setup supports more widespread storm activity, including scattered downpours and lightning.

Sedgwick, Reno, and Butler counties may see brief gusty winds and downpours Thursday night, but stronger cells could form by midday Friday. Localized ponding on roads and minor delays are possible. Residents are advised to avoid flooded low-water crossings and monitor updates from local emergency managers.

While no severe weather is currently forecast, drivers should prepare for reduced visibility and slick conditions during Friday’s evening commute. Outdoor workers and event organizers should have backup plans in place.

Thunderstorm chances taper off into the weekend, with a return to drier conditions by Saturday.
