Wheaton, IL – A DuPage County judge has granted prosecutors’ motion to detain an Addison man accused of opening fire on police officers during a four-hour armed standoff that left one officer injured Thursday morning.

According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik, 45-year-old Salvador Lozano allegedly fired dozens of rounds from inside his home on East La Porte Drive after police responded to reports of erratic behavior.

Authorities said the confrontation began around 11 a.m. on October 30, 2025, after Lozano allegedly pepper-sprayed officers and later opened fire from inside his residence. One officer was struck in the back but survived due to a Kevlar vest. Police returned fire as Lozano continued to shoot intermittently over the next several hours.

When SWAT teams entered the home around 3:15 p.m., Lozano was taken into custody without further injury. Investigators later recovered more than 250 shell casings, multiple Glock handguns with extended and drum magazines, and bullet damage to at least seven nearby homes and two police vehicles.

“This was an extremely dangerous situation where an individual allegedly tried to take the lives of our officers,” Chief Selvik said. Berlin praised responding officers for their “courage and professionalism” during the prolonged standoff.

Lozano is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm at an officer, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. His next court appearance is set for November 24, 2025 before Judge Mia McPherson.
