La Crosse, Wis. – Heavy rain is expected to soak much of western Wisconsin through Wednesday morning, with the highest totals likely west of the Mississippi River and south of I-90, potentially causing localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, widespread rain will begin tonight and continue into midweek. Areas like Prairie du Chien, Viroqua, and Richland Center have a 90% chance of receiving at least an inch of rainfall, with some spots seeing as much as two inches if storms intensify overnight.
The highest risk zones stretch from La Crosse southwest toward Decorah and Platteville, where poor-draining areas and low-lying roadways may experience standing water. Light thunderstorms are also possible, especially late Tuesday. Commuters along Highways 14, 35, and U.S. 61 should be cautious during early Wednesday travel due to wet pavement and reduced visibility.
Residents are advised to clear storm drains, secure outdoor items, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. If water is covering the road, turn around — don’t risk it.
Rain chances taper off by Wednesday afternoon, but another round of wet weather could follow later this week. Updates will be issued if additional advisories are posted.
