Lubbock, Texas – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Caprock and western Rolling Plains of Texas this afternoon, bringing potential risks of damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service warns that some storms could produce wind gusts as strong as 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters.
According to the NWS, these thunderstorms will form as a cold front stalls across the region. Hot temperatures will accompany the storms, with high temperatures reaching into the low 90s in many areas, including Lubbock and Paducah. Winds will shift southeast at 10-15 mph as the storms begin to build through the afternoon.
Communities across western Texas, including Memphis, Tulia, and Littlefield, are under threat of isolated severe storms. Those in the region are advised to stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Winds of up to 60 mph could cause flying debris and power outages, while hail may damage vehicles and crops.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor objects and seek shelter if severe weather approaches. Stay tuned for additional updates from the National Weather Service as storms are expected to continue into the evening.
