Pittsburgh, PA – Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio today, with damaging winds and a heightened risk of isolated tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed the region under a 1 out of 5 severe weather risk, with the most dangerous conditions expected between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today.

According to the NWS, residents near I-79 and I-70 should brace for strong wind gusts, which could exceed 58 mph. Tornado warnings are also in effect for parts of the region, including areas near Wheeling, WV, and Morgantown, WV. Localized heavy rain could cause flash flooding, making travel conditions hazardous during peak storm hours.

Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly along I-79, as visibility and road conditions may deteriorate rapidly. Ensure you are signed up for local weather alerts, and secure outdoor items that could become dangerous in high winds. Residents should monitor weather forecasts and be ready to seek shelter in case of tornado warnings.
