Columbus, OH – Heavy rain is set to impact the Western Ohio Valley through Monday morning, increasing flood risks across Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, between 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected by early Sunday, with additional rainfall likely through Monday. This prolonged precipitation is forecasted to trigger renewed rises in river levels, pushing some waterways to Action and Minor flood stages across the tri-state region.
The hardest-hit areas will include central and western Ohio, including Columbus and Dayton, as well as portions of eastern Indiana and southern Illinois. These areas are already vulnerable due to lingering water levels from prior rainfall. Flooded roads, localized flash flooding, and travel disruptions are possible, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
The agency warns that rivers currently in Moderate to Major flood stage will likely experience slower recessions due to continued rainfall. Residents near the Ohio River and its tributaries should monitor local alerts and be prepared to act quickly if flood warnings are issued.
Travelers are urged to avoid driving through standing water and check local advisories regularly. Officials recommend securing outdoor property and having emergency supplies on hand. More updates are expected as the system develops into Sunday.
