Grand Rapids, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of western and northern Michigan until 7 p.m. Saturday, bringing snow and freezing rain that could make travel hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected across northern lower Michigan, while western and central regions will see 1 to 4 inches, with some areas receiving a light glaze of ice. The heaviest snowfall is forecasted in areas such as Emmet, Cheboygan, and Grand Traverse counties.
Drivers should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility, especially during peak travel hours. The advisory also extends to southern counties, including Kalamazoo, Jackson, and Van Buren, where a mix of snow and freezing rain could create hazardous conditions.
Officials urge caution on the roads and recommend reducing speeds when traveling. Road conditions will gradually improve Saturday night as precipitation tapers off.
