Buffalo, NY – Another round of strong, gusty winds is expected to impact western New York Wednesday afternoon and evening as a low-pressure system tracks just north of Lake Ontario, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo.

Forecasters say southwest winds will strengthen by midday Wednesday, producing gusts of 45–55 mph across areas south of Lake Ontario, including parts of Erie, Niagara, Genesee, and Monroe counties. Isolated higher gusts are possible, especially near heavier showers.

The NWS warns that strong winds may blow down tree limbs and unsecured outdoor items, with a few isolated power outages possible. Winds will gradually shift northwesterly by late Wednesday night as the system moves east.

Impacts could be heightened by saturated ground conditions and partially weakened trees. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects and use caution when driving high-profile vehicles, particularly along I-90 and near the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Winds are expected to ease into Thursday morning, though breezy conditions may linger with gusts still reaching 15–25 mph early in the day.
