Jamestown, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning is in place for Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Monday, with 2 to 3 feet of snow expected in the hardest-hit areas.
According to the National Weather Service, snow bands will develop early Friday, impacting the region throughout the weekend. The heaviest snow is likely to fall along Route 60 and Interstate 86, with whiteout conditions possible during peak snowfall. Commuters and Black Friday shoppers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel.
Strong winds will compound the hazards, creating blowing and drifting snow that could obscure visibility and make roadways impassable. Residents should also prepare for potential power outages as heavy snow accumulates on trees and power lines.
Drivers venturing out should exercise extreme caution, keeping extra supplies like blankets, water, and flashlights in their vehicles. Emergency services urge residents to stay informed through local news and the New York State Department of Transportation’s travel updates.
As cold air continues to move across Lake Erie, additional snowfall may occur early next week, prolonging cleanup efforts and travel disruptions in the region.
