Buffalo, NY – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for parts of Western New York, with up to 3 feet of snow expected to accumulate in some areas by Friday night, creating treacherous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service has forecast heavy snowfall and strong winds for areas including northern Oswego County, southern Jefferson County, and northern Lewis County. The warning is active from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m. Friday, with the heaviest snow expected to fall in narrow, localized bands.
According to the advisory, snow totals could reach between 2 and 3 feet in the hardest-hit locations, with wind gusts up to 40 mph causing blowing and drifting snow. These conditions will lead to significantly reduced visibility and dangerous driving conditions, particularly during Wednesday evening, Thursday morning, and Thursday evening commutes.
Residents should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions, as areas under lake effect snow bands can experience heavy snowfall, while nearby areas may remain dry. Travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary trips and carry emergency supplies if travel is essential.
