Springfield, Mo. – Scattered showers and storms could bring up to three-quarters of an inch of rain to parts of western Missouri through Sunday, raising concerns for localized flooding in already saturated areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, waves of rain will move through the region intermittently over the next several days. Widespread rain is not expected, but some areas, particularly in southwest Missouri, could see repeated rounds of precipitation totaling 0.25 to 0.75 inches by Sunday night.

Communities along and west of I-49, including Joplin, Neosho, and Lamar, face the highest chance for heavier rainfall. Areas that received significant rain last weekend are especially vulnerable, with saturated soils increasing the risk of rises along small streams and creeks. Minor flooding is also possible in low-lying or poor-drainage areas.

Residents are advised to monitor local updates, avoid driving through water-covered roads, and ensure sump pumps and drainage systems are functioning properly. While rainfall will not be constant, sudden downpours may still disrupt travel or outdoor plans.

Additional showers are likely into early next week, and the NWS warns that more advisories may be issued if storm coverage intensifies.
