Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of Michigan as lake effect snow and hazardous conditions are expected. Snowfall is predicted to begin at 7 p.m. Monday and persist through 1 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, areas in southwest and west-central Michigan, including Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Kalamazoo, could receive between 2 and 4 inches of snow. Some locations may see isolated higher totals. Wind gusts will create blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility and creating slippery road conditions.
Morning and evening commutes on Tuesday are likely to be impacted. Authorities urge drivers to proceed cautiously, as visibility can change rapidly in lake effect snow bands. The National Weather Service warns that the hazardous conditions may cause significant travel disruptions.
Temperatures will drop into the teens overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, with wind chills dipping as low as 5 degrees below zero. These conditions may pose risks for those outdoors for extended periods.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for snow-covered roads and fluctuating visibility. Travelers should check weather updates and plan accordingly. The advisory covers numerous cities, including Ludington, Holland, Hastings, and Grand Haven.
This weather system is part of a larger pattern bringing cold air across the Midwest. Residents are reminded to stay vigilant and monitor local updates for further changes in the forecast.
