Paducah, Kentucky – Above-normal temperatures will give way to scattered thunderstorms and soaking rain by Thursday afternoon, bringing a wet end to the workweek across western Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, high temperatures will climb into the low 80s by Thursday before a round of showers and thunderstorms moves through late Thursday into Saturday morning. Rainfall totals between 0.5 to 1 inch are expected across much of the region, with localized higher amounts possible, especially near the Missouri and Illinois borders.

Cities including Paducah, Murray, Mayfield, and Madisonville could see the most active weather Thursday night. Travel impacts are likely during the Friday morning commute, particularly on I-24, US-60, and local rural roads where ponding is possible. Residents are urged to check local alerts and avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding.

This unsettled stretch follows a warming trend that’s pushed daily highs nearly 10 degrees above seasonal norms. Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of Thursday’s storms and keep devices charged in case of isolated power outages.

Showers may linger into early Saturday, with clearer skies expected by the afternoon. More updates and possible advisories are expected from the NWS as the system develops.
