Paducah, KY – Drivers in western Kentucky are being warned of hazardous conditions as a wintry mix of sleet, snow, and freezing rain sweeps the region through Monday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 a.m., urging caution on untreated roads and bridges.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, precipitation will transition between rain, freezing rain, and snow overnight. This could lead to ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch in some areas, particularly near I-24 and surrounding roadways. Slippery travel is expected, with significant concerns for drivers during the Monday morning commute. Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time and check road conditions before heading out.

By late Monday morning, the area may see a changeover to light snow, although accumulations will likely remain under half an inch. Temperatures will hover near freezing, further complicating road safety. Gusty winds up to 25 mph could also reduce visibility, especially in open areas.

Looking ahead, Monday will remain cloudy, with a chance of flurries early and a high near 29 degrees. Tuesday and Wednesday promise calmer conditions, with clear skies and highs in the low 30s. However, nighttime lows will plunge into the single digits by midweek, making refreezing a concern on untreated surfaces.

Motorists are advised to monitor updates via the National Weather Service or KYTC’s road safety alerts. If driving, reduce speed and avoid sudden braking to prevent accidents. Pedestrians should take caution on sidewalks and driveways as icy patches remain likely.
