Dodge City, Kansas – Isolated thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-size hail and 50+ mph wind gusts could develop Thursday evening across western Kansas, especially near the Colorado border.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, there is less than a 15% chance for strong to marginally severe storms between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. CDT. The threat zone stretches from Springfield and Ulysses to Tribune and Goodland, with Dodge City and Garden City on the eastern edge of the area of concern.

While the probability is low, any storm that forms could quickly intensify. The main hazards include damaging winds and hail. Emergency officials urge residents in southwestern Kansas to secure loose outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during the evening hours.

These storms are expected to remain isolated, but forecasters stress that even low-probability events can bring localized impacts. This pattern is similar to early summer storms often seen along the dryline west of Ulysses and Scott City.

Storm chances diminish overnight, but more updates are expected if conditions change.
