Dodge City, KS — Thunderstorms and widespread showers are expected to drench western Kansas this weekend, starting late Saturday. The National Weather Service warns that residents should prepare for heavy rainfall, cooler temperatures, and the possibility of flash flooding by Sunday.
According to the forecast, a cold front will interact with a developing low-pressure system, bringing widespread storms across the region. Rainfall totals could reach 1.25 to 1.5 inches in cities like Dodge, Garden, and Hays, beginning late Saturday night into Sunday morning. The probability of precipitation rises to 70% by Saturday evening, with storms continuing through the overnight hours. Sunday is expected to bring additional showers, with total rain accumulations nearing 2 inches in some areas.
The heavy rain will be followed by a significant drop in temperatures. Highs on Sunday will be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees, a noticeable change from the warmer temperatures earlier in the week.
