Grand Junction, Colo. – Temperatures across western Colorado are climbing fast this week, with highs running 10 to 20 degrees above normal and topping out near 95°F in some areas by Saturday. Afternoon thunderstorms, some capable of producing gusty winds, lightning, and small hail, are expected to develop daily through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a strong high-pressure ridge will dominate the region through the end of the week, fueling the rapid warm-up. While the heat builds, trapped moisture beneath the ridge is sparking scattered showers and storms each afternoon, especially over higher terrain.
In Grand Junction, highs will rise from 88°F on Tuesday to 95°F by Saturday. Moab, Utah, will approach 97°F by the weekend, while Durango is set to reach the mid-80s. Steamboat Springs, sitting at higher elevation, will peak near 79°F.
Drivers and hikers should stay weather-aware through Thursday afternoon, when storm activity is most likely. If thunder roars, head indoors. Keep devices charged and secure loose outdoor items that could be blown by outflow winds.
Heat and storm risks will ease slightly by the weekend, but forecasters caution that additional advisories may be issued if instability increases.
