Buffalo, NY – A slushy winter system is moving across western and central New York, bringing snow showers to the region through Tuesday evening, with totals ranging from less than an inch to 4 inches in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service Buffalo NY, snowfall will primarily affect areas east of Lake Ontario, including the Tug Hill Plateau, where 3 to 4 inches are expected. Lower elevations, such as Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse, may see snow mix with or change to rain during the day Tuesday, limiting accumulation to under 2 inches.

Communities like Watertown and Lowville are forecast to receive 1 to 2 inches, while regions like Jamestown, Springville, and Warsaw may receive around 1 inch. The heaviest snow will concentrate over higher terrain and the eastern Lake Ontario region.

Travelers should expect wet, slippery roads and reduced visibility during heavier snow bursts, especially in the early morning and evening commutes. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time.

Residents should secure snow removal tools and prepare for temporary power disruptions in rural areas. While the system is typical for late March, it underscores the state’s variable spring transition. Conditions are expected to taper off late Tuesday night.
