Charleston, West Virginia – A welcome stretch of sunshine will brighten West Virginia this week, with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s by Wednesday across the lowlands, including Charleston and Huntington. Lingering mountain showers tonight will taper off, setting the stage for a warm and dry midweek.

According to the US National Weather Service in Charleston, mountain regions will cool into the mid-40s overnight, but most of the state will stay dry starting Tuesday. A partly sunny Tuesday gives way to full sunshine on Wednesday, with mountain highs reaching the mid-70s and lowland cities nearing 80 degrees.

While a stray shower is possible in the southern coalfields on Wednesday, most of the state will stay clear. By Thursday, a few scattered afternoon showers may develop—especially in the northern mountains—though widespread rain and storms aren’t expected until Friday or Saturday.

Travelers and residents should enjoy the brief dry spell, but be prepared for changing conditions later this week. Those in the southern and eastern counties should monitor local alerts for updated storm timelines.

Warmer weather holds through Thursday, but rain chances and potential storms will ramp up heading into the weekend.
