Charleston, West Virginia – Heavy rain and strong storms could slam Charleston by midday Monday, prompting flash flooding concerns and travel hazards along I-64. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms may bring wind gusts over 30 mph, isolated hail, and soaked roads just as residents begin their workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, scattered storms will develop after 12 p.m. Monday, intensifying into the evening with a 50% chance of strong to severe activity. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas and along creeks, particularly in Kanawha, Putnam, and Cabell counties. Winds from the southwest may gust up to 21 mph.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, avoid low-lying roads, and charge devices ahead of potential power outages. Commuters on I-64 and I-77 should expect slick conditions during evening rush hour. Monday night brings another round of storms, some possibly severe after 11 p.m., continuing into early Tuesday morning.
