Charleston, WV – High pressure will keep Charleston dry this weekend, but significant changes are on the horizon for next week. A cold front is expected to sweep through the region by midweek, bringing rain, gusty winds, and a drop in temperatures. Drivers along I-64 and surrounding areas should prepare for reduced visibility and wet road conditions starting Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Sunday will remain partly sunny and mild, with highs around 64°F and light winds. However, by Tuesday, an 80% chance of rain moves in, impacting the morning and evening commutes. Lowlands like Charleston will see mostly rain, but the colder temperatures late in the week may bring a mix of snow and rain to the nearby mountains, especially Thursday night.

Temperatures will begin to dip Thursday, with daytime highs dropping to the low 40s and overnight lows near freezing. NWS notes that gusty winds on Thursday could lead to minor tree damage and isolated power outages, particularly in exposed areas. Residents planning outdoor activities or travel should monitor forecasts and avoid unnecessary trips during peak rain periods.

The outlook for the rest of the week suggests that precipitation could linger through Friday. Highs are expected to reach only the low 50s, with continued showers. Drivers along I-64 should expect slick roadways and occasional delays as the cold front moves through.

Stay informed by checking updated forecasts and road conditions before traveling. For mountain areas, carry winter weather supplies and exercise caution if snowfall develops late in the week.
