According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a powerful system will push into central and southern West Virginia early Thursday, bringing rounds of thunderstorms, gusts up to 40 mph, and a high chance of localized flash flooding. Areas along Route 60 and I-64 should prepare for ponding on roads, low visibility, and possible debris from winds. The storm threat begins around 11 a.m. Thursday and continues into early Friday.

Rain will remain steady through Friday, with thunderstorm chances peaking between 2 and 8 p.m. Flood-prone areas near Kanawha, Putnam, and Lincoln counties may experience quick runoff and stream rises. Winds will shift south at up to 20 mph, amplifying hazards, especially during high-traffic hours.

Residents should avoid low-lying routes, charge mobile devices, and have a backup plan for outdoor activities through the end of the workweek. Spotters are encouraged to report hail or high winds.
