Charleston, WV —Patchy fog and frost set a chilly tone for West Virginia’s Sunday morning, but residents should brace for thunderstorms arriving Monday. A slow spring warm-up brings unsettled conditions to much of the state in the days ahead.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, temperatures dipped near freezing Sunday morning across central and southern West Virginia, with areas of frost and fog before 9 a.m. Gardeners and farmers are urged to continue protecting sensitive plants as lingering cold snaps may still occur.

The week ahead looks more active. A 20% chance of rain arrives late Sunday evening, becoming more widespread on Monday. Thunderstorms are likely Monday night, with up to 70% coverage in Charleston and surrounding areas. Gusty winds and brief downpours may impact commutes and outdoor activities.
