Charleston, West Virginia – Charleston residents should brace for strong storms and the threat of localized flooding Friday afternoon as a Marginal Risk zone sets up across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, West Virginia, thunderstorms are likely to develop after 2 p.m. Friday, bringing damaging wind gusts and isolated hail to parts of Kanawha, Cabell, Wayne, and Putnam counties. Rainfall totals may exceed a half-inch in some areas, especially along the I-64 corridor. Storms may linger through Friday night, with heavy rain persisting into Saturday morning.

With saturated ground and back-to-back storm waves, localized flooding is a concern—especially in low-lying areas and poor drainage zones. Motorists should avoid water-covered roads and plan for slower travel conditions during the Friday evening commute.

Saturday’s weather stays active, with more showers and possible thunderstorms after 10 a.m. Conditions may briefly clear Sunday before another storm chance arrives Sunday night.

More storms are expected Monday night into early Tuesday before calmer, sunnier skies return midweek.
