Lewisburg, WV – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for portions of West Virginia until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Light snow and black ice are making roadways dangerous, with winds gusting up to 50 mph adding to travel hazards.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations will remain under one inch, but freezing temperatures overnight are expected to produce widespread black ice on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways. Drivers along I-64 and other major routes should exercise extreme caution during the Tuesday morning commute. High-profile vehicles, in particular, may face difficulties navigating in strong winds.

Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the day, with highs only reaching the upper 20s. Wednesday brings partly sunny skies with a slight improvement in temperatures, reaching 33°F, but freezing conditions will return overnight with lows near 12°F. Thursday will see continued cold weather under sunny skies, with highs in the mid-20s.

Residents are urged to prepare for potential power outages caused by tree branches falling under the weight of ice and strong winds. Generators should be placed outside in well-ventilated areas, and downed power lines must be avoided. Travelers are encouraged to keep an emergency kit, including food and water, in their vehicles and to check the latest road conditions by calling 511.

Another winter storm could impact the region late Friday into Saturday, bringing additional snow and ice.
