Charleston, WV – Bitterly cold temperatures gripped West Virginia Thursday morning as wind chills plunged into the single digits across the region. Residents in Charleston and surrounding areas should prepare for a cold and snowy night, with the National Weather Service forecasting a 40% chance of snow showers after 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are most likely between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Friday. Overnight lows will drop to 16°F, with west winds of 5 to 10 mph adding to the chill. By Friday morning, accumulation will be minimal but could create slick conditions on roadways, particularly along Interstate 77 and U.S. Route 60.

Friday will bring some relief with partly sunny skies and a high near 27°F, but temperatures will dip again Friday night to around 10°F. Saturday promises clear skies and slightly warmer weather, with highs near 40°F.

Looking ahead, Sunday will stay mostly cloudy with a high of 40°F, followed by clear and mild conditions Monday and Tuesday, with highs reaching the low 40s. However, the next few nights will remain bitterly cold, with lows ranging from the teens to the mid-20s.

Residents are encouraged to bundle up, monitor forecasts for updates, and use caution when traveling overnight and during the Friday morning commute. Anyone planning outdoor activities should limit exposure to avoid frostbite.
