Morgantown, West Virginia – Drivers in southern Preston County should prepare for slick, flooded roads this morning after up to 1.5 inches of rain fell overnight, with the heaviest totals from Evansville to Kingwood. Ponding is already being reported on major roadways including I-68.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers will persist through late morning, dropping another 0.25 to 0.33 inches per hour in some areas. Rainfall totals could reach or exceed 2 inches before the system tapers off later this afternoon.

Localized flooding is likely, especially in low-lying areas and spots with poor drainage. In addition to Preston County, Morgantown and parts of Tucker County are also seeing moderate to heavy rain, which may slow travel and create hazards during the morning commute.

Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roadways and delay non-essential travel if possible. Motorists on I-68 should use caution, as ponding and poor visibility could lead to hydroplaning.

Rain is expected to ease by mid-afternoon, but forecasters warn additional flood advisories may be issued if rainfall intensifies. Stay tuned to local alerts as conditions develop.
