Charleston, WV – Frigid temperatures and light snow are gripping West Virginia this week, with dangerous conditions expected on roadways, especially on I-64 and other major highways. Drivers should remain alert as lingering slick spots persist from recent snowfall.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow showers are forecast Wednesday morning, particularly in mountain areas, while temperatures will remain bitterly cold throughout the week. Highs will struggle to reach 26 degrees on Wednesday, and lows will plummet into the single digits by Thursday night. Wind chills may make conditions feel even colder, prompting officials to urge residents to limit outdoor exposure.

Another significant snow system is expected Saturday, bringing heavier accumulation and increased travel risks. Preparations should include stocking up on essentials, checking heating systems, and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready.

Thursday offers a brief respite with partly sunny skies, but frigid air will linger, with highs near 24 degrees and lows dipping to just 3 degrees overnight. Snow chances return Friday, with a 90% probability by evening and continuing into Saturday. Weekend highs will hover around 30 degrees, with snow likely to impact outdoor plans and travel.

Hazardous road conditions will remain a concern throughout the week. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds, maintain safe distances, and avoid non-essential travel during snow events.
