West Virginia & Pennsylvania Weather Alert: Freezing Rain and Snow Impacting Travel Until Thursday

Pittsburgh, PA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of West Virginia and Pennsylvania, with snow and freezing rain creating hazardous road conditions through early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, areas including Preston, Tucker, and Monongalia counties in West Virginia, as well as multiple counties in western Pennsylvania, are experiencing accumulating snow and icy conditions. Additional snowfall up to one inch is expected in parts of Preston and Tucker counties overnight, while a second advisory warns of freezing rain beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, lasting until 4 a.m. Thursday.

In Pennsylvania, higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette counties could see ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph. Mercer, Venango, Indiana, and other western Pennsylvania counties will also experience mixed precipitation, including up to one inch of snow and ice accumulations around two-tenths of an inch.

Travelers should plan for slippery roads and reduced visibility. The worst conditions are expected during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Drivers are urged to use caution and check local road conditions before traveling.
