West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee Brace for Snowstorms as Winter Weather Advisories Issued

Charleston, WV – A winter weather advisory has been issued for multiple regions in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee, forecasting snow and hazardous travel conditions starting Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, West Virginia, snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, accompanied by wind gusts up to 40 mph, are expected across northeast, northern, southeast, and southern areas. The advisory will remain in effect from 7 a.m. Thursday until 7 p.m. Saturday, potentially impacting Thursday’s morning and evening commutes.

In Kentucky, the NWS in Jackson predicts snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches in Bell, Knott, Leslie, Perry, and Pike Counties. The advisory will take effect from 7 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday. Higher elevations could see slippery road conditions, particularly above 1,500 feet.

Meanwhile, portions of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia, including Johnson and Carter Counties, are also under a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday. The NWS in Morristown warns of 1 to 5 inches of snow across higher elevations and ridgelines.

Residents are urged to exercise caution while traveling and stay informed on road conditions by calling 511 or visiting local transportation websites.
