Kingwood, WV – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Preston and Tucker counties through 7 p.m. Tuesday as freezing rain creates a dangerous ice glaze across the region.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh warns that icy roads will make travel hazardous throughout the day. Light ice accumulations ranging from a thin glaze to 0.10 inches are expected, along with isolated snow accumulations up to one inch in higher elevations. The freezing rain began early Tuesday morning and will continue to impact road conditions during both morning and evening commutes.
Key areas affected include Kingwood, Bruceton Mills, Terra Alta, Parsons, and Thomas. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces are especially prone to icing, posing a risk for accidents. Officials urge drivers to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution while on the roads. Pedestrians should also take care to avoid slipping on icy sidewalks.
Sub-freezing temperatures and lingering moisture are fueling the icy conditions. Although confidence is high for freezing rain into the afternoon, the duration of the threat remains uncertain. Residents are advised to monitor updates closely as conditions may change.
The National Weather Service encourages locals to report snow or ice accumulations by calling 412-262-1988, posting on the NWS Pittsburgh Facebook page, or tagging @NWSPittsburgh on Twitter.
Drivers should prepare for possible delays and carry emergency kits, including blankets, water, and flashlights. Stay informed by checking weather updates throughout the day to ensure safe travel.
