West Virginia Flood Warning: High Water Levels Threaten Central and Northern Counties Until 10 PM

Charleston, WV – A flood warning remains in effect until 10 PM EST for multiple counties in central and northern West Virginia due to excessive rainfall, with ongoing flooding in urban areas, streams, and rivers.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, rainfall of 1 to 2 inches has already fallen, with an additional 0.5 inches possible in affected regions. Floodwaters are continuing to rise, leading to hazardous conditions in low-lying areas. The warning covers Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis, Randolph, Roane, Taylor, and Upshur counties.

Impacts include:

•   Flooding in rivers, creeks, and flood-prone areas.
•   Rock falls and landslides in steep terrain, with reports of incidents in some locations.
•   Dangerous travel conditions, especially on flooded roads.

Residents in Buckhannon, Weston, Philippi, Spencer, Glenville, and other affected areas should avoid flooded roads and remain alert for shifting terrain. The NWS urges people to “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering standing water on roadways.
