Charleston, WV – Flooding remains a significant threat across central, southern, and northern West Virginia as heavy rainfall continues to impact the region. Several counties remain under Flood Warnings until Friday afternoon, with rising water levels affecting roads, homes, and small streams.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, urban area and small stream flooding is ongoing in Boone, Clay, Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Nicholas, Raleigh, Wayne, and Wyoming counties. Doppler radar has recorded between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain in these areas, with more runoff expected. Flooding has been reported in Beckley, Logan, Pineville, Oak Hill, Montgomery, and other communities.

Additional flood warnings are in effect for parts of Carter and Greenup counties in Kentucky; Gallia and Lawrence counties in Ohio; and Jackson, Mason, and Roane counties in West Virginia. In Philippi and Belington, rivers are expected to crest above flood stage by Saturday morning, with localized road closures possible.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Those in landslide-prone areas should remain vigilant for signs of soil movement. Updates will be provided by the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov/rlx.
