Alderson, WV – A Flood Warning has been issued for the Greenbrier River at Alderson, with minor flooding expected from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, VA.
The combination of snowmelt and rainfall will cause the river to rise above its 14-foot flood stage, cresting at 14.3 feet by Saturday night before receding.
According to the NWS, flooding may impact portions of Route 3 and Route 12downstream from Alderson near Eagle Branch, potentially making these roads impassable. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roadways and use caution near riverbanks.
The current river level is 4.1 feet, well below flood stage, but is expected to rise significantly over the next 24 hours. The last comparable flood event occurred in February 2023, when the river crested at 14.7 feet.
