Charleston, WV – Residents in Charleston and surrounding areas can look forward to a warming trend this weekend after days of bitter cold. Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 30s and lower 40s, providing a reprieve from freezing conditions that have impacted roads and waterways.
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high of 40 degrees and calm winds, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities. Sunday is forecasted to be similarly mild, with sunny skies and a high of 41 degrees. These temperatures are a significant improvement compared to earlier in the week, which saw lows dip into the teens.
Despite the warmer weather, safety officials are urging residents to remain cautious around local lakes and rivers. Ice that formed earlier this week may begin to weaken as temperatures rise, increasing the risk of falls and accidents. The National Weather Service advises staying off ice less than four inches thick and avoiding cracked or slushy areas.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast suggests a continuation of milder temperatures. Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain sunny, with highs reaching the mid-40s by midweek. Overnight lows, however, will still drop into the mid-20s, so cold mornings will persist.
Drivers should remain cautious as fluctuating temperatures may cause icy patches to form on bridges and overpasses during early morning hours. Residents are encouraged to dress warmly and take advantage of the sunny weekend to prepare for the next stretch of winter weather.
