Charleston, WV — With exceptionally dry conditions and low humidity forecasted through Tuesday, fire risks in West Virginia will remain high. Residents in Charleston and surrounding areas are urged to stay vigilant as dry weather, coupled with gusty afternoon winds, continues to elevate the threat of wildfires. The National Weather Service warns that outdoor burning should be avoided during this time, and all fire safety precautions should be followed.
According to the National Weather Service, a tropical system passing through may bring light rainfall later this week, but it will do little to relieve drought conditions. Rain chances increase to 67% by Tuesday, but accumulation is expected to be less than a tenth of an inch.
As the week progresses, Charleston residents will also have the chance to witness a rare celestial event. Tuesday night’s supermoon will coincide with a partial lunar eclipse, peaking around 10:44 p.m. EDT. While weather conditions will likely remain dry, residents should plan to view the eclipse safely from their homes.
