Charleston, WV – An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for parts of West Virginia, including Southeast Fayette, Southeast Nicholas, Southeast Raleigh, and Northwest Randolph counties, until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service warns that wind chills could drop as low as -28°F in Pocahontas and Randolph counties and as low as -22°F in Webster County. Beckley, Elkins, and surrounding areas are expected to experience dangerously low temperatures that could cause frostbite within 30 minutes of exposure.

Residents are advised to take precautions by wrapping exposed pipes, allowing faucets to drip, and ensuring pets are kept indoors. Outdoor activities should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. If venturing outside, wear multiple layers of clothing, along with gloves, hats, and face coverings.

A Cold Weather Advisory will follow Wednesday evening, with wind chills remaining as low as -10°F overnight. Updates and additional resources are available on the National Weather Service website and social media pages.

For safety, check on vulnerable neighbors and avoid using generators or outdoor heaters indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Conditions are expected to improve by late Thursday morning.
