Charleston, WV – Bitter cold temperatures and extreme wind chills are gripping West Virginia this week, with advisories issued across the region. Residents should prepare for wind chills as low as -30 in some areas through Thursday, creating hazardous outdoor conditions and challenging travel.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), an Extreme Cold Warning is in place for northeast West Virginia, where the wind chill could drop to dangerous levels this morning. Additionally, Cold Weather Advisories cover the rest of the state through Wednesday morning, as bitterly cold air and light snow showers make roads slick. Drivers along I-64 and surrounding highways are urged to use caution.

Scattered snow squalls are possible this afternoon and evening, which could reduce visibility and create icy patches. Minimal snow accumulation of less than half an inch is expected, but rapidly freezing conditions pose risks for travelers.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will remain cold, with daytime highs around 24°F and wind chills nearing -10°F. Conditions improve slightly Thursday, with temperatures reaching 34°F under mostly sunny skies. However, the night brings lows around 16°F. The weekend forecast shows continued cold, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the 30s.

Residents should dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and ensure pets are protected. For the latest updates, visit the NWS website or follow local authorities on social media.
