Charleston, WV – Residents in Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph Counties are advised to brace for dangerously cold temperatures through Sunday morning. Wind chills as low as 19 degrees below zero could pose serious risks, including frostbite and hypothermia.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the Cold Weather Advisory will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday. The affected areas include communities such as Harman and Snowshoe, where extreme wind chills are expected to make outdoor conditions perilous.

Residents are urged to take precautions by wearing appropriate winter clothing, including hats and gloves, and limiting outdoor exposure. Pets should be brought indoors, and any outdoor animals must have access to warm, dry shelters and unfrozen water.

Additionally, officials recommend checking on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors. Portable heaters should be used with care, and the use of generators or grills indoors is strictly discouraged due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
