Charleston, WV – Temperatures in Charleston will soar to 90°F today as hot and dry conditions continue, with drought persisting in many areas. Those who missed yesterday’s showers are urged to heed local burn bans and fire safety warnings.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, light winds combined with the ongoing drought have left fine, unsheltered vegetation particularly vulnerable to fire hazards. The area remains under burn ban advisories, which will remain in effect through the week unless significant rainfall arrives sooner.

Relief is on the horizon, as rain chances will increase late tonight into Monday, with up to two inches of rain expected by Wednesday afternoon. While the rain won’t be enough to completely break the drought, it will provide some respite to the dry conditions gripping the region. Residents are advised to stay cautious, especially when using open flames or conducting outdoor activities until the rains arrive.

The extended forecast suggests a cooling trend after Monday, with highs dropping into the upper 70s and more consistent rain chances through midweek.
