Charleston, WV – A powerful winter storm is expected to blanket parts of West Virginia with up to 12 inches of snow, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Warning through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning applies to central, northeast, northern, and southeast portions of the state, including cities such as Elkins, Buckhannon, and Webster Springs. Snowfall totals will range from 3 to 12 inches, with the heaviest snow anticipated in higher elevations. Gusty winds, reaching up to 45 mph, may lead to whiteout conditions, making travel dangerous.

The warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, with hazardous road conditions expected to impact both Friday morning and evening commutes. The combination of snow and high winds could also result in downed tree branches and isolated power outages.

Officials urge residents to delay travel if possible and to carry emergency kits if driving is unavoidable. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution and prepare for possible road closures.

For the latest updates, visit the National Weather Service website or follow local road condition alerts by dialing 511.
