According to the National Weather Service, Garrett County, MD, and Western Grant and Pendleton counties in WV are under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 a.m. Friday. Snowfall totals are expected to range between 4 and 8 inches, with some areas seeing as much as 10 inches. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, especially along ridge tops, creating whiteout conditions.
Travel in the region could become treacherous during both the morning and evening commutes. The snow is expected to be heaviest Thursday morning, turning to snow showers and squalls by evening. Drivers should exercise extreme caution and prepare for rapidly changing weather.
Authorities recommend carrying an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water if travel is unavoidable. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511.
