Tucker County, WV – A Blizzard Warning is in effect for eastern Tucker County until 10 a.m. Saturday. Heavy snow and wind gusts up to 50 mph are forecasted to create dangerous travel conditions along U.S. Route 219 and surrounding mountain roads. Visibility may drop below 1/4 mile, making travel treacherous, especially through higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh, 9-15 inches of snow is expected to accumulate. Road conditions are already deteriorating rapidly, with ice and snow covering many routes in the region. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through mountain areas, until conditions improve after the storm subsides.

The blizzard will contribute to dangerously low visibility, with blowing and drifting snow reducing travel safety. Drivers who must be on the road should equip vehicles with winter safety kits and prepare for delays. U.S. Route 219 and other mountain highways remain hazardous, and chains or snow tires are recommended.

Looking ahead, conditions will ease by late Saturday morning. However, cold temperatures and scattered snow showers are expected to linger through the weekend, keeping roads icy. Thanksgiving week in Tucker County begins with below-average temperatures and light snow, though no additional significant accumulation is forecast beyond Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates and follow NWS advisories for the latest road closures or weather warnings. Avoid mountain travel unless essential and stay prepared for severe winter weather.
