Charleston, WV – A flood warning remains in effect until 8:45 a.m. Sunday for parts of northeast Kentucky and West Virginia, including Charleston, Huntington, and surrounding areas. Heavy rainfall overnight has caused flooding in low-lying regions, with more rain expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, gauge reports at 2:07 a.m. confirmed ongoing flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch expected by Sunday morning. Impacted counties include Boyd, Carter, and Lawrence in Kentucky, along with Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Putnam, and Wayne in West Virginia.

Rivers, creeks, and streams are rising rapidly, affecting towns such as Nitro, Hamlin, and Barboursville. The National Weather Service advises avoiding flooded roads, especially at night, when water hazards are harder to detect. Residents should report flooding to the NWS at 800-401-9535 when safe.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. For real-time updates and safety tips, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
