San Angelo, TX – A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for West Central Texas from 3 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. Residents should prepare for snow, ice, and freezing rain that may impact travel and commutes.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the advisory Wednesday afternoon. According to the NWS, a mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow will begin overnight Thursday as temperatures drop below freezing. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, could become slick and hazardous.
The advisory spans all of West Central Texas, including Abilene, San Angelo, and surrounding areas. Light snow and ice accumulations are possible, with some areas seeing patchy ice on roadways. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds during their Thursday and Friday commutes.
Meteorologists predict conditions could worsen by early Thursday morning as temperatures hover near freezing. This weather system may also disrupt visibility and cause delays in local transportation. Officials encourage residents to monitor updates and avoid unnecessary travel if conditions deteriorate.
Emergency management teams recommend keeping vehicles stocked with winter supplies, including blankets, water, and non-perishable food. If driving is necessary, ensure your car has proper tires and a full tank of gas.
The NWS also advises residents to watch for updates as conditions could change rapidly. For more information, visit weather.gov/sjt.
