Albuquerque, N.M. – Extreme heat continues to grip New Mexico and West Texas, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 113°F in some areas by Tuesday afternoon, prompting multiple heat advisories and an extreme heat warning.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. MDT Monday for the Middle and Lower Rio Grande Valleys, including Albuquerque, Socorro, and the San Francisco River Valley. Highs will range from 101°F to 105°F. The most dangerous heat, however, is expected Tuesday across the Chaves County Plains, where an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. MDT with temperatures projected to reach 110°F.

In Texas, the National Weather Service in Midland has issued Heat Advisories from noon to 9 p.m. CDT Tuesday for a broad swath including Presidio, Brewster, Ward, and Reeves counties. Some locations may see temperatures up to 113°F, especially in the Lower Brewster Valley and Pecos.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors, drink water frequently, avoid alcohol and caffeine, and check on vulnerable individuals. Outdoor workers should take frequent shaded breaks, and no one—especially children or pets—should be left in parked cars.

More heat advisories could be issued Tuesday as the ridge persists. Relief may come midweek with slight chances of storms in higher elevations.
